Baby Jaxon who was born with most of his skull missing defies odds and celebrates 1st birthday
Brittany and Brandon Buell from Florida were going for their 17 week ultrasound when they discovered that something was off with the pregnancy. Doctors told them that their son, Jaxon, had a malformed brain and would most likely not survive the pregnancy.
The couple was given the option to terminate the pregnancy but the devout Christian couple were against abortion. Brittany stated, 'Who are we to decide? We were given a child, we are given a chance and we have to be his voice.'
Jaxon Emmett Buell was born on August 27, 2014 weighing only 4 pounds. He was born with most of his skull missing, but with most of his brain. He was later diagnosed with Microhydranencephaly, an incurable malformation of the brain.
Doctors only gave him days to live but Jaxon has made it to his 1st birthday. Those that have heard Jaxon’s story have nicknamed him Jax Strong due to him continually beating the odds. He continues to improve daily.
The couple started crowdfunding with a GoFundMe page to help cover the medical costs which has so far raised $55,000 (£36,257) with a goal of $70,000 (£46,145). On their crowdfunding page they state, "Jaxon has already shown how strong, smart, and special he is, accomplishing feats that doctors doubted he'd ever be able to do, shows improvements each and every day, and just reached a miraculous milestone in celebrating his first birthday. These funds help pay for our regular monthly expenses and Jaxon's continuous medical care, which changes frequently."
