Remember the 'don't mention the war' episode of Fawlty Towers? Well David Cameron's obviously seen it a couple of times too many.
The Tory Blairalike tried his hand at some Basil style comedy at a press conference about ID cards recently. He adopted a German accent in order to illustrate his point about the intrusiveness of ID cards - Nazi state and all that, but unfortunately for him it went down like a poo sandwich. One punter in the Norwich audience complained.
"I wonder about the wisdom of you adopting a German accent?" she said, to which a flustered Dave explained he was only trying to crack a funny.
Let this be a lesson to all politicans: jokes? Don't try them. Have a listen.
