Today is March 20, otherwise known as International Day of Happiness. The special say was introduced by the UN in 2012 and has been gathering steam in the last couple of years.

The main idea behind the day is to promote sharing and caring among people around the world so that everybody can experience more happiness. The UN looks to achieve this through education and raising awareness for basic human needs.

In honour of the day, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon delivered this message "Happiness may have different meanings for different people. But we can all agree that it means working to end conflict, poverty and other unfortunate conditions in which so many of our fellow human beings live.".

The key to happiness for you today is to keep things simple as the best things in life are free just as the song says. So if you are looking for some tips that can help you feel that bit happier given the day that is in it, something as simple as doing a good deed for a stranger or smiling at everybody you see today could lift your happiness levels significantly.

Making a list of all the things that you are grateful for in your life can really bring a smile to your face. Making breakfast in bed for someone you love is another happiness creator as you get to experience the joy of giving. Or how about getting out for a walk or run as it is a great way of stimulating happiness while clearing your mind while spending time with family and friends will also put you in a great mood.
