An incredible story has emerged from Russia where a cat has saved the life of a baby abandoned outside in cold temperatures. The 3 month old baby boy was then later discovered thanks to the cat's calls and was swiftly taken to a hospital in Obninsk.
The baby was abandoned in a box near an apartment block in Obninsk with temperatures dipping down towards a chilly 0 degrees celsius. Masha, a tabby cat, stumbled upon the box and climbed inside next to the toddler to provide much needed warmth.
Body heat from the cat was key to keeping the baby warm and Masha also kept up regular meowing in order to grab the attention of locals in the area. One resident, Irina Lavrova, heard Masha's calls and quickly went to investigate only to discover the toddler alongside the cat.
Lavrova recalled the shock she experienced after finding Masha alongside the baby saying "Normally she would have come and said hello to me. You can imagine my shock when I saw her lying in a box next to a baby." The baby was then taken directly to hospital where he was found to be in good health.
Masha is well known to residents of the apartment block and is cared for by many of the locals there. Lavrova explained how much this has meant to everybody in the community saying "Everyone in the block is very proud of her. We have all spoiled her rotten by giving her her favorite food."
