Nativity Scene with a Zombie Twist not welcomed in a U.S Neighborhood
During the Christmas season, many people like to pull out the nativity scene and display it in their homes or on their lawn. Jason Dixon from Ohio set out to do just that but with a twist.
Mr. Dixon is from Deer Park, Ohio. Last year he set up his nativity scene on the front lawn. But unlike most nativities, this one was made up of zombies.
It included Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus who were all zombies. Many of his neighbors disapproved. Eventually he was forced to take it down because he didn’t have the correct permits.
This year he applied for the permit but was denied as it was violating certain zoning codes. The wooden shelter was taller than 5 feet and the nativity took up more than 35% of the front yard. Dixon isn’t convinced though. He told The Week, “I think it’s the theme. It just rubs people the wrong way and it puts the spotlight on me. That’s why they’re coming down so hard on me.”
Mr. Dixon has a haunted house business called “13 Rooms of Doom”. While Walking Dead fans may love the twist on the nativity scene, Mr. Dixon is paying the price. He is being fined $500 USD a day until he takes it down.
