Home remedies for fleas on dogs

There’s nothing like a home remedy to get rid of aliments. That’s also true for some of the issues that afflict our pets. We’ve got a few ideas that will get rid of the itch that’s annoying your four-legged friend.

Using Boric Acid on a dog’s fleas is a great idea as it’s a natural insecticide. Just sprinkle it on the surfaces your dog has been on – both inside the house and outside – and the fleas will be killed.

Another powder that kills fleas off is Diatomaceous Earth. You can use this directly on your doggy and the furnishings. All you do is sprinkle it lightly along the dog’s spine (make sure his coat is completely dry first). Massage it in for the best results.

Nematodes are worms that are a great way of controlling fleas in your garden as they hunt out and destroy flea larvae. You’ll need to follow the special watering instructions found on the container so that you don’t make the ground dry out too much, as that can stop the nematodes from surviving.

Salt is another substance that is great for fleas. To use salt affectively, vacuum the carpet first, then sprinkle fine table salt onto the floor, rugs and furniture. You might need to leave for up to a week to get great results but the time spent is worth it.

You can use fresh Rosemary leaves and boiling water to help fleas from your dog. Mix 2 cups of Rosemary with 2 pints of boiling water, then strain the Rosemary leaves out. Add a further 6 pints of water with a gallon of flea dip and then slowly pour the mixture over your dog’s coat.
