Maximum security or not, mankind's creativity and incredible tenacity to do difficult things are known. Prison breaks that are cleverly executed attest to this.

One of the most daring prison breaks ever to occur is the Colditz Escape. Colditz Castle was a prisoner camp located on a cliff in Saxony. Many have tried to flee and succeeded. But, the most interesting jailbreak was through using a glider built by two British pilot prisoners.

Pascal Payet is a Frenchman convicted of murder during a robbery and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. The only thing is, he did not fancy staying behind the bars that long. He escaped twice from maximum security jails using a helicopter he hijacked.

It looks like French prisoners have a thing for helicopters. Nadine Vaujour took helicopter lessons so she could break her husband, Michel Vaujour out of prison who was then serving jail time for robbery and attempted murder. Michel climbed the rooftop using nectarines (which looked like grenades). Nadine came in a chopper and whisked him out.

Alcatraz has served as a maximum prison for 29 years. During its existence, there was a total of 14 attempted jailbreaks which were foiled or partly successful because inmates were recaptured in a short time. One escape which was the most triumphant was the jailbreak of Frank Morris and the Anglin Brothers in 1962. They went down the drain pipe and left the island using a pontoon-boat. They are presumed to be drowned or missing . But, there is also a theory that some survived.

The John B. Connally Unit is a maximum security prison in Texas. On 13 December 2000, a group of prisoners known as the Texas Seven escaped by overpowering prison officials and maintenance staff. They were remanded back in prison through the show, America's Most Wanted.

Alfred 'Alfie' Hinds was a British criminal serving 12 years in prison. He actually managed to flee three times in a year. He escaped by climbing over a 20-foot wall and overpowering prison guards. Alfie was eventually captured and served his prison sentence.

HP Prison Maze is considered one of the most secure prison jails in Europe. But, apparently, 38 IRA prisoners did not think so, when they overpowered the wardens and took control using guns. They escaped using a food truck that was bringing in supplies.

Korean Choi Gab-bok was serving 23 years in prison and during that time, he perfected the art of yoga. He managed to squeeze himself in a rectangular food tray slot and out to freedom. Six days after the amazing escape, he was recaptured.
