For some reason, Friday the 13th is a date that everyone fears because bad things are believed to happen on this unfortunate date. This fear of the date stems back from the 1800s. For Christians, Friday was unlucky because Jesus Christ died on this day. The number 13 is just an unfortunate number.

Another superstition that is supposed to bring bad luck is to walk under a ladder. This actually makes sense as you would not want to trip the ladder and let the person on it fall. Its origin though is based on a Christian belief of the Holy Trinity since a ladder leaning on a wall forms a triangle. Thus, walking under it is considered blasphemous.

Breaking a mirror is supposed to bring you bad luck for seven years or so the superstition goes. Mirrors not only reflect a person's image, but also the soul. Although being doomed to 7 years of bad luck is excessive, people tried to shorten the fate by touching a shard to a tombstone or grinding it into powder.
