This might sound unfair but we’ve taken a look into what the public perceive to be the worst UK accent. To some a monotonous tone is music to their ears, to others the accent has to be pitch perfect. Which of the following do you love and which do you love to hate?

You might not be surprised to read that the Birmingham accent is towards the top of the list for worst accents in the UK. A poll by YouGov put it in the mix with others from place north of London, although received pronunciation like the Queen and her offspring speak is also on the list.

The study rated the Brummie accent as the worst in the UK out of 12 main accents. The result of the study suggest that the British public believe it’s unattractive, and 67% of those polled said that they would think twice about going out with someone with a strong West Midlands accent.

Scousers aren’t well received according to the recent poll. The accent has been called one of the ugliest in Britain. They had the second worst scores from the poll.

The Manchester accent was also considered ugly by those who polled for the site. It was third only to the Liverpool and Birmingham accents.

The Irish accent is the opposite of those mentioned before. People tend to find those who speak with an Irish brogue attractive. They’re more likely to date those who speak with the soft southern Ireland tone than those who speak the harsher accent found in Northern Ireland.

Received pronunciation, also known as BBC English is an accent that is also looked upon badly by most of us in the UK. It’s perceived as a snobby accent that is well out of date so it shouldn’t surprise you to read that it’s considered one of the worst in the UK.
