A schoolboy was sent home from school after turning up to an event dressed like the lead character in Fifty Shades of Grey. 11 year old Liam Scholes from Sale in Manchester showed up as Christian Grey and was dismissed from his school's World Book Day event as a result.
Pupils were asked to dress up as famous literary characters for the event. Scholes' mother Nicola told the Manchester Evening News that Liam "went in a suit and shoes and with an eye mask and cable ties" and she later received a phone call from one of the teachers saying that Liam would not be allowed to stay for the event.
He was excluded from the event because of his chosen character and was told by staff members at Sale High School that he would not be allowed to participate in the event and would have to leave. His mother was not happy about the whole fiasco and defended her son saying "The cable ties were tiny and not enough to do anything with them."
Ms Scholes added "If it was a primary school I could understand but it’s a secondary school and the book and the film have been everywhere. It’s one of the most famous books in recent years and it’s not like the pupils will be unaware of it"
She also pointed out that one of the teachers at the school dressed up as murderous Dexter Morgan from Darkly Dreaming Dexter. Ms Scholes was unable to see how "sex is seen as more offensive than murder" and has questioned the school's reasoning. Christian Grey and Dexter are both equally fond of cable ties alright...
