Steven Hawking's daughter has written an emotional open letter to outspoken Katie Hopkins asking her to "Stop making life harder for disabled people". Lucy Hawking felt compelled to speak out after recent comments Hopkins made about Labour MP Ed Miliband being on "the spectrum".

Hopkins insensitively tweeted during the leaders debate on the 2nd of April "ED STOP LOOKING AT US. You are weird. Look at people not a machine. Try and act off the spectrum #leadersdebate". This deeply upset Lucy Hawking and she began her open letter by saying "Dear Katie Hopkins, I am writing to you – not respectfully, but politely – to ask you to stop."

She continued "I read your comments about Ed Miliband and his supposed resemblance to someone “on the spectrum”" before adding "My father is Stephen Hawking, and I have an autistic son. So it makes me sad when your ‘jokes’ about Ed Miliband mock people with disabilities."

Lucy continued "I have an autistic son. He’s very sweet, polite, hard-working, kind and generally lovely. But if he were staring at you, Ipresume it wouldn’t be okay, that you would make a laughing stock out of him." She then called on Hopkins to think before she speaks saying "To be honest, I don’t really care what happens to you. But I do care what happens to people with disabilities and their families, and I care that you are making difficult lives even more challenging. Please stop."

Hopkins was in the news for more wrong reasons earlier this week after it emerged that she was asked to leave the LGBT awards as guests did not want her there. This open letter though might make Hopkins think a little bit more before she speaks out in future. The British public can certainly hope so.
